  • What is the diagnosis process for elbow endoprosthesis revision surgery

During the consultation, the orthopedic doctor will answer all of your questions.

At Medi Horizon Clinic Warsaw orthopedic clinic, the patient is referred for an initial consultation with a specialist orthopedic surgeon. Therefore, we recommend a radiological examination and an MRI of the elbow joint for full diagnosis. During the consultation visit, the orthopedic surgeon diagnoses the patient in detail and guides the patient through the entire procedure of elbow joint replacement surgery. After the orthopedic surgeon preliminarily qualifies the patient for treatment for elbow joint revision surgery, he is asked to perform a full set of diagnostic blood tests, after which he is referred for a consultation with an anesthesiologist. • What does the elbow joint revision surgery look like?

The elbow endoprosthesis revision procedure is performed in the Operating Theater.

Elbow prosthesis replacement is an operation that involves replacing a damaged elbow endoprosthesis that the patient already has with a new prosthesis. This operation is definitely more complicated and more difficult for the Orthopedist, due to the fact that it is a replacement of the prosthesis with a new one. Elbow joint replacement surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2h. On the day of surgery, the patient receives a full antibiotic cover and anticoagulants. After the procedure, the patient stays at the Clinic under the care of qualified medical staff and receives painkillers so that he or she can recover comfortably from the surgery. During his stay at the Hospital, he is under the comprehensive care of a Doctor and a Rehabilitator, who helps the Patient to start moving his hand.

  • What is the recovery like after elbow replacement surgery?

After elbow replacement surgery, cooling of the elbow area is recommended to reduce postoperative tissue swelling. The patient, during the stay in the Hospital, takes appropriate drips of painkillers all the time. Rapid recovery after surgery is related to the recommendations of the orthopedist and rehabilitation specialist. After the procedure, there may be swelling within the joint causing discomfort, which disappears up to a few days after the procedure. Elbow rehabilitation involves improving the range of motion in the joint and strengthening the muscles. As early as the second day after surgery, the patient is stabilized and begins rehabilitation exercises. Medi Horizon Clinic works with experienced and qualified rehabilitation therapists, who help patients on a daily basis to return to daily life after surgery. Thanks to close cooperation between the orthopedic surgeon, the rehabilitator and the patient – rehabilitation after endoprosthesis surgery brings good results and helps patients quickly return to full mobility.
